How do i tame my curly hair?

alright well my hair is naturally curly, not tight curls kind of loose but at the same time, frizzy. 2 years ago i would refer to straightening my hair DAILY and i regret that to this day and try not to straighten it often now. i do so about probably once every 2 months. anyway, i have grown to like my curls but i would LOVE them if they didn't look like a big poof ball sitting on top of my head. i actually have two questions:

1. how do i make my curly hair look nice without using too much product -- i don't want to add anymore damage

2. when i do straighten it, it doesn't look nice like i see on other girls heads. even people with the same hair as me come out looking beautiful with silky hair. mine just doesn't stay straight for anything! help!

How do i tame my curly hair?

Sounds like my hair. Well, the first part I've fixed, but the second part still happens, even when a semi professional is doing my hair.

In response to the first part, I use Garnier Fructis Curl %26amp; Shine shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner. Not only does this work really well (defining my curls, leaving it non frizzy, and not weighed down or oily) it smell AMAZING. I almost started moaning like in the old Herbal Essences commercials (embarrasing, but I'm serious). After washing %26amp; conditioning, I don't put anything in my hair except the leave in and I let my hair air dry.

To style, I use Sunsilk Frizz Ease 24/7 creme (green bottle) %26amp; mousse to hold (though its not neccassary all the time. Some people use hairspray). I use Tresseme Curl Care mousse, but I just bought Garnier Fructis Curl Construct mousse to try since my other one is running out. I apply the creme first %26amp; then the mousse on wet hair (I just stick my hair under the sink every morning). Don't towel dry, just squeeze all the water out. Also, don't comb your hair, just finger comb while wetting it.

This lasts all day, even after softball %26amp; conditioning.

Another thing I do is put my hair in some type of bun (on the top of my head so when I'm sleeping there won't be a big bump or anything) at night and this helps my hair from being wild in the morning.

I also found out that if you put mousse in your hair after you wash it, when you re-wet your hair, more curls come back instead of little wimpy ones.

I personally only wash %26amp; condition my hair 1-2 times a week. Sounds gross, but I promise my hair isn't nasty or anything. I don't condition every day like most people say to, because that just leaves build up (for me anyway).

Some people use a diffuser to define their curls, but air drying works fine for me. People also use curling irons, which I can't understand because their hair is already curly.

As for straightening, I really can't help you with that. Everyone says the CHI works well, but I suggest finding something that works for you. Make sure you put on a good heat protectant. I heard Biosilk works really well. Apply like a nickel size amount before %26amp; after you straighten so your hair will be silky %26amp; not frizzy. Whenever I get my hair straight (which only stays straight-straight the first day), I use a gloss/shine serum to cut down frizz. I hear John Frieda %26amp; Paul Mitchell have good serums.

Well, I hope this helps %26amp; best of luck!

That sounds exactly like my hair!! So, neutrogena has this new leave in conditioner out, I love it, it helps to moisturize ur hair as it dries so its smooth and healthy. Also, when it comes to straightening hair like ours its just so happens that (1) you will need to buy a salon quality straightener, talk to your stylist she/he can probably help you place an order, or (2) wash your hair the morning before you want it straight, let it dry in a ponytail. The evening before you want to straighten it, actually do the straightening. Then it the morning do a little touch up straightening, and Voila!!!
