He thinks it is a game, when he does it he has this big smile on his face and I tell no hitting/pulling hair it hurts.

Not being rude, but obviously your method of reprimand isn't working. He'll continue to do it until he sees that not only is he not getting the response he wants, the puinishment is not worth it.But to answer your ?, he will stop it when you teach him otherwise...how long that takes is up to oyu.

You must have conveyed that it was a game initially, as with the first poster, you will need to be firmer in your reprimand and it will dawn on him, just be firm!

My daughter had a hair pulling problem too. One day i got tired of it and did it really hard to her. She started crying and i told her "see how it feels, its not nice" and she stopped. Hope this helps.

Some kids never grow out of it even with parents teaching them not to. Some never even have that stage. If he find it funny or think its a game then that's something you will have to work harder than most to fix.

He will do it as long as you let him. By telling him no and leaving it at that he thinks he's getting away with it. A child not even 2 doesn't always get "yes" and "no". Say "no" and put him in time out or take a toy. Or scream/cry like it really hurt. Some kids get that. For something like this I would almost recommend spanking. I am somewhat against it, but now would be a good time. As long as its open handed on the covered butt.

I haven't read any other answers, but if anyof them say spank him or hit him back or pull his hair PLEASE don't listen to them. You are doing good with the timeouts... My daughter used to do that (shes 22months) and timeouts eventually made her stop. The phase only lasted about 1 month %26amp; a half, maybe 2 months... Just be consistent w/your timeouts and he will eventually get the picture. Spanking him, hitting him back, or pulling his hair back will only make him think "Well if mommy can hit/pull hair, then that must mean it is OK to do it!" That is not the message you want to send! You need to react to negative behavior with negative emotion. You have to frown and make your voice deeper, you can't smile or laugh or blow it off. You just have to keep repeating this. They learn things by repetition so it may take some time to learn it, especially if some people or kids are laughing at the behavior because that will reinforce it.

My 16 month old daughter is going thru this stage as we speak , I am tryin everything with her to stop, If she see her aunt or uncles fake cryin when she does this to them or even me , she will stop and start to cry herself and say sorry and give you a huge. But then 10 min later she back to doing it again!!! I don't know what to do!!! if you have any great suggestion please let me know as well!!!
